Visitation Code of Conduct
The Covid-19 pandemic has created many challenges for aged care providers in particular around how to manage visitation to residents by family and friends whilst minimising the risk of contracting Covid-19 to residents, family and staff.
COTA for Older Australians proposed that a code be drafted and after a public consultation with consumers and aged care providers, the document ‘Industry Code for Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes during Covid-19’ was finalised and endorsed on 11 May 2020. This Code of Conduct provides a nationally consistent framework for service providers and outlines rights and responsibilities of residents and visitors and gives guidance on how residents can meet visitors whilst minimising risks of Covid-19’s introduction to, or spread within, a residential care home.
