Palliative Care

Palliative Care

As a resident’s health declines due to the ageing process or chronic health conditions, Maroba, in partnership and consultation with the resident, treating practitioners and relevant family, will gently shifts its focus from curative treatments to enhancing comfort and quality of life. This includes understanding and responding to each person’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural needs, with particular attention to recognising and easing pain. Maroba follows best‑practice guidelines for a palliative approach, ensuring every resident receives compassionate, dignified care during this stage of life.

Our goal for Palliative Care is to help residents live their life as fully and as comfortably as possible and to optimise their quality of life, when living with a life-limiting or terminal illness. When making the decision to begin palliative care, Maroba considers not only a resident’s diagnosis but also consult with key family members and any others close to the resident who have been nominated to be involved in the resident’s care.

Our Guide for Residents Entering Palliative Care booklet can be used as a resource in providing information, assist in decision planning and ensure residents wishes are respected.

We understand supporting a loved one through Palliative Care may be difficult, the Information for Families booklet provides information on what to expect when a loved one receives end of life treatment.

During the admissions process residents will be asked to fill in the Information for Residents on Advance Care Planning booklet to ensure wishes are documented and care is delivered to align with resident’s choices.
